Applications for InspiraTO's Playwrights' Mentoring Project has closed. Stay tuned as we announce the recipients in the next 3-4 days.  Note: If selected please keep Sat. Feb 11, 2012 (Toronto) as you must be available to attend the workshop.      

Create a ten-minute play and work with an experienced dramaturg, led by Lisa O'Connell, Artistic Director of Pat the Dog Playwright Centre, her team and Dominik Loncar, Artistic Director of the InspiraTO Festival. Six emerging playwrights will be chosen.  Each one will work with a dramaturg and director to create and develop a ten-minute play that will have three performances at this year's 7th Annual InspiraTO Festival, June 1-10, 2012 in Toronto.  

- Open only to Canadians (including Canadians who have submitted a play to the current or past festival)

- Ideally suited for emerging playwrights - those who have had some exposure to having a reading or production of a play(s) and would like to take their craft to the next level 

- You must be available to attend a one day workshop on February 11, 2012 in Toronto (10 am - 4 pm)

- You do not need to have written a ten-minute play 

- Please do not submit a ten-minute play you want to work on: The plays will be developed from initial concept to completion during the Mentoring Project

- There is a non-refundable $5 application fee 

- There are no other costs for the playwrights. No fees are paid out.  Candidates that are selected are responsible for any transportation/food costs to and from the workshop. After the workshop candidates can also choose to work remotely with the dramaturg/director   

    

You must apply online:

1.  Fill out the form below (complete each section).  Attach ONE sample of your work. It can be a part of a longer piece, a ten-minute play, or any literary work. It should not be longer than 10 pages.

 In the biography section, in addition to a providing a bio, also state: 

       a) any plays you have written and/or that have been produced

       b) a brief artist statement - your approach as an artist

       c)  why InspiraTO's Playwrights' Mentoring Project would be of particular help in honing your craft as a playwright at this time in your development

 This section should not be longer than 600 - 700 words

Attach your sample script in a WORD document or in a PDF file.  Hit "submit". The WORD document must be compatible with Window XP. (Note: Vista & Mac formats are not compatible).

Deadline to apply: Jan 31, 2012 midnight  E.S.T.  Only candidates that are selected will be notified by Feb. 5.  Playwrights selected must be available to attend a full day workshop on Feb. 11, 2012 in Toronto (10 am - 4 pm).

Candidates are selected based on how InspiraTO's Playwrights' Mentoring Project can effectively help the playwright develop their craft at their current stage of development.  

 

 

 

The InspiraTO Festival, Canada's largest ten-minute play festival, now entering its seventh season, has produced 82 ten-minute plays with over 190 actors and 80 directors participating. The festival is dedicated to producing high quality ten-minute plays and making theatre more accessible to both audiences and theatre artists.
